Headline: Russia Expels British Diplomats—Another Cold War Echo or a Warning of a New Chill? Russia has accused six British diplomats of espionage and “subversive activities” and has expelled them, escalating tensions between the two nations. ABC News+1 My Analysis / Opinion:This move isn’t just diplomatic tit‐for‐tat—it signals Moscow’s deepening distrust of the West. In an era marred by proxy wars and espionage revelations, this expulsion is less surprise than a reminder: Russia views the UK not merely as a rival, but as a persistent, ideological threat. Western capitals must ask: Is this Moscow’s way of flexing diplomatic muscle, or testing how far it can push before Western unity cracks? And for India and other nations watching carefully, it’s a live cue to re-evaluate how those big Cold War players are shaping today’s multipolar world. Wolverine’s Take:The chill between Russia and the UK is cooling—and it’s time global powers take stock before it freezes over.

PM Modi Celebrates India’s Space Wins on National Space Day — But Are We Reaching for the Stars or Just Echoing the Cosmos? On National Space Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s recent space achievements—successful missions to the Moon and Mars, breakthroughs like the semi-cryogenic engine and electric propulsion—and hailed the scientific community and emerging space startups for their contributions. The Times of India Analysis / Opinion:Modi’s celebration sends more than patriotic pride—it’s a statement of strategic intent. India’s space ambitions aren’t just about exploration; they’re about asserting technological autonomy and geopolitical weight. The emphasis on homegrown innovations signals that India doesn’t just want to ride the wave of global space advancement—it wants to craft its own trajectory. But the /why it matters/ question lurks: can these high-tech advances translate into domestic benefits—better satellites, reduced launch costs, STEM jobs—or are they mainly symbolic victories for national prestige? The real test lies in turning innovation into infrastructure and democratizing the gains. Wolverine’s Take:India may have reached the Moon and Mars—but the next frontier is proving that space progress benefits every home on Earth.

Breaking Sports News of the day – 23.08.2025 Online Gaming Bill Becomes Law After Presidential Nod President Droupadi Murmu on Friday gave her approval to the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, officially making it law. The legislation, recently cleared by both Houses of Parliament, seeks to encourage e-sports and social online games while imposing a strict ban on online money-based gaming, related advertisements, and financial transactions. The law prohibits the offering, running, or supporting of money-based online games. However, officials have clarified that players will not be penalised—the restrictions are directed at service providers, advertisers, promoters, and financial backers. To give structure to the growing e-sports ecosystem, the government will set up a dedicated regulatory framework under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, recognising e-sports as a legitimate competitive sport in India. Social gaming platforms will also be promoted within this framework. The Bill was introduced to tackle the social and financial risks linked with online money gaming, including addiction, heavy monetary losses, and even cases of suicide. Concerns over money laundering and terror financing through such platforms were also highlighted during the debate. Under the new law, hosting or facilitating money games could attract up to three years in prison and fines of up to ₹1 crore. Advertising such services may lead to a penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment or a fine of ₹50 lakh. 👉 Wo

Global Food Authority Declares Famine in Gaza for the First Time The world’s top organization tracking food crises warned on Friday that famine has taken hold in Gaza City, the territory’s largest urban centre. Without a ceasefire and the lifting of restrictions on aid, it cautioned, the crisis could engulf the rest of Gaza. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), famine conditions are already present in Gaza City, where hundreds of thousands live. If the situation does not change, the IPC projects that the crisis could spread south to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis by the end of next month. This declaration follows months of alerts from humanitarian groups, who have said that Israel’s blockade of food and essential supplies, coupled with ongoing military operations, has pushed civilians — especially children — to the brink of starvation.

He urged that there should be no compromise on India’s national interests, and expressed confidence in Prime Minister Modi’s ability to navigate the situation effectively. The Economic Times Earlier remarks on economic resilience: While responding to U.S. President Trump’s characterization of India’s economy as “dead,” Naidu strongly countered, noting that India is the fastest-growing major economy, rapidly advancing from the 11th to the 4th largest—and projected to be 3rd by 2028. He underscored that tariffs and trade barriers are temporary roadblocks, unimaginable distractions by some, but ultimately powerless to stop India’s economic march. The Indian ExpressIndia TodayFirst India Addressing impact on Andhra Pradesh’s aqua farmers: Naidu acknowledged that tariff hikes, especially on exports like shrimp, could heavily affect coastal farmers in his state. He said the state government would support aqua farmers with measures such as highly subsidized electricity (₹0.015 per unit), increased financial aid for fishermen (raised from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 per person), and strategic plans to mitigate losses.Deccan Heraldwww.ndtv.com He also previously urged the central government to negotiate with the U.S. to ease duty burdens (e.g., 27% seafood duties) that were impacting nearly eight lakh aqua farmers in Andhra Pradesh. The Times of India Context: What’s Behind the U.S. Tariffs? The Trump administration has imposed steep tariffs on Indian goods—an initial 25% “reciprocal” tariff, followed by another 25% penalty linked to India’s continued purchase of Russian oil—bringing total duties to 50%.ReutersWikipediaHindustan Times Trade Minister Piyush Goyal stated that India is approaching the conflict with a “very open mind”. He reaffirmed the importance of the India-U.S. relationship and reiterated that the nation’s farmers’ interests must remain protected. The visit by U.S. trade negotiators (August 25–29) has been cancelled, stalling immediate opportunities for dialogue.Reuters The looming trade war is part of a broader diplomatic and strategic impasse.
