Golf Courses in Andhra Pradesh

Golf in Andhra Pradesh – Emerging with Promise

While Andhra Pradesh does not yet boast a wide network of golf courses, the facilities in Visakhapatnam, coupled with its rich historical association with Hyderabad and Secunderabad, ensure the sport retains a strong foothold. With growing corporate interest and tourism potential along the coast, the state has the opportunity to develop world-class golf courses in the years to come.

Andhra Pradesh, with its mix of coastal plains and historic cities, is gradually making its mark on India’s golfing map. While the state does not have the sheer number of golf courses found in regions like Delhi or Karnataka, it offers a blend of heritage clubs, defence-run courses, and emerging facilities. Golfing in Andhra Pradesh is closely tied to its larger cities such as Hyderabad (before Telangana’s bifurcation) and Visakhapatnam, where the sport enjoys steady patronage.

East Point Golf Club, Visakhapatnam

One of the premier golfing destinations in Andhra Pradesh, the East Point Golf Club (EPGC) was established in 1987 and has since become a hub for the sport in the coastal city. This 18-hole, par-72 course is spread across scenic rolling terrain, offering challenges like water hazards and tree-lined fairways. Its lush greenery, coupled with Visakhapatnam’s pleasant coastal breeze, makes it both enjoyable and testing for golfers. EPGC frequently hosts tournaments and is well-regarded for maintaining international playing standards.

Bison Golf Course, Secunderabad (Historical Note)

Although geographically situated in present-day Telangana, the Bison Golf Course has historically been associated with undivided Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the oldest courses in the region, dating back to 1888. Maintained by the Army, this 9-hole course is set amidst a natural landscape, with undulating fairways and a rich colonial history. It continues to be popular among military personnel and civilians who gain access through guest invitations.

Yarada Golf Course, Visakhapatnam (Defence Services)

Located within the premises of the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, the Yarada Golf Course is primarily meant for defence personnel. Nestled close to the sea, this course is known for its compact layout and disciplined upkeep. Civilian access is limited, but it plays an important role in sustaining golf culture within the armed forces stationed in the city.

Hyderabad Golf Club (Historical Reference)

Before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad Golf Club, located near the iconic Golconda Fort, was one of the most prominent golfing venues under the state. Today it falls under Telangana, but it remains an important part of the state’s golfing heritage. With an 18-hole, championship-level course, it continues to attract golfers from across the country.
