Digboi Golf Course, Assam

Kaziranga Golf Resort, Assam

Designed by Ranjit Nanda, Kaziranga Golf Resort is one of the most celebrated golf destinations in the North-East. Located near Jorhat, this 18-hole championship course is spread over a sprawling tea estate. The course is challenging with undulating fairways, water hazards, and natural bunkering, and it has been developed as a complete golfing resort with accommodation and leisure facilities. It has put Assam firmly on India’s golfing map.

Shillong Golf Course, Meghalaya

Known as the “Gleneagles of the East,” the Shillong Golf Course is among the oldest and most picturesque golf courses in India. Originally laid out in 1898 as a 9-hole course and later expanded to 18 holes in 1924, it is set in a stunning valley surrounded by pine groves. Located at an altitude of over 5,000 feet, the course is noted for its natural beauty, rolling fairways, and fast greens. It is a hub of golfing activity in Meghalaya and attracts both serious players and tourists.

Sikkim Golf Courses (Army Facilities)

Golf in Sikkim is closely tied to the armed forces, with smaller courses such as those maintained at army stations near Gangtok. While these are not large championship courses, they provide a disciplined environment for the sport and are set against the majestic backdrop of the Himalayas. Access is usually limited to defence personnel and their guests.

Other Courses in the North-East

• Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh: These states do not yet have prominent civilian golf courses.
